UK accuses Iran of ‘deliberate & callous’ drone attack on tanker & plans response

DOMINIC Raab has accused Iran of a “deliberate and callous” drone attack on an oil-tanker that killed a British armed forces veteran. The attack on the Mercer Street, which is linked to an Israeli billionaire, occurred off Oman in the Arabian Sea and a Romanian crew member was also killed. The Brit, who has not been named, was working for the Herefordshire based security company Ambrey and was onboard the 600ft tanker. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the night raid on the Liberian-flagged Mercer Street.Suspicion immediately fell on Iran, which has been linked to other attacks on tankers and has been engaged in a tit-for-tat shadow war with Israel in which each other’s ships have been targeted. But the country's state media has come out directly and claimed responsibility and said the attack was retaliation for an Israeli strike on Syria. However, now both the UK and the US have said it is highly likely that the attack was carried out by Iran.Britain's Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said: “The UK condemns the unlawful and callous attack committed on a merchant vessel off the coast of Oman, which killed a British and a Romanian National."Our thoughts are with the friends and family of those killed in the incident.“We believe this attack was deliberate, targeted, and a clear violation of international law by Iran.“UK assessments have concluded that it is highly likely that Iran attacked the MV MERCER STREET in international waters off Oman on 29 July using one or more Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).“Iran must end such attacks, and vessels must be allowed to navigate freely in accordance with international law.“The UK is working with our international partners on a concerted response to this unacceptable attack.”Later on the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said he was considering "next steps" with the UK.He warned that "an appropriate response is forthcoming - and according to Sky News the government already held an emergency Cobra meeting this weekend. In 2019, two oil tankers , the Front Altair and Kokuka Courageous, were attacked by torpedos and burst into flames off the coast of Iran.Continue reading Dominic Raab accuses Iran of ‘deliberate & callous’ drone attack on tanker that killed Brit crewman as UK plans response https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/15751484/dominic-raab-accuses-iran-killed-brit-crewman/The Sun newspaper brings you the latest breaking news videos and explainers from the UK and around the worldBecome a Sun Subscriber and hit the bell to be the first to knowRead The Sun: http://www.thesun.co.uk Like The Sun on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thesun/ Follow The Sun on Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSun Subscribe to The Sun on Snapchat: https://www.snapchat.com/discover/The_Sun/1633225139 #Iran #DroneAttack #WorldNews

Priti Patel rejects calls to end face-to-face constituency surgeries following David Amess murder Videos

Tobias Ellwood, the Tory chairman of the Commons Defence Select Committee, urged a 'pause in face-to-face' consultations between parliamentarians and members of the public until a safety review had been completed in the wake of Sir David's death on Friday. His proposal was excoriated by defiant Tories including former Cabinet minister David Davis, Robert Largan and Alec Shelbrooke. Labour's Harriet Harman called for an official review of MPs' safety, while former Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott also rallied against 'airport-style screening' - but told the BBC she would support meeting constituents behind a screen to prevent possible stab attacks. And Home Secretary Priti Patel insisted that MPs must keep meeting voters, telling the BBC's Andrew Marr Show this morning it would be 'unacceptable' for Sir David's killing to 'break the link between an elected representative and their democratic role, responsibility and duty to the people who elected them'. However, the killing of Sir David at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea as he met with Southend West constituents has prompted the Government to look at ensuring that every MP gets police on guard at their weekly surgeries - a move backed by Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle.Original Article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10101441/There-copycat-style-attack-Tory-MP-doubles-call-pause-face-face-meetings.html Original Video: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-2526827/Video-Priti-Patel-rejects-calls-end-face-face-constituency-surgeries.htmlDaily Mail Facebook: http://facebook.com/dailymail Daily Mail IG: http://instagram.com/dailymail Daily Mail Snap: https://www.snapchat.com/discover/Daily-Mail/8392137033 Daily Mail Twitter: http://twitter.com/MailOnline Daily Mail Pinterest: http://pinterest.co.uk/dailymail Daily Mail Google+: https://plus.google.com/+DailyMailGet the free Daily Mail mobile app: http://dailymail.co.uk/mobile
