COVID-19: Ontario announces expansion of vaccine booster program eligibility | LIVE Videos

Ontario's chief medical officer of health Dr. Kieran Moore is expected to make an announcement Thursday about expanding the eligibility for its COVID-19 vaccine booster program. The announcement comes as concerns over the Omicron variant continues to mount just days after the first cases of the variant were reported. Moore also said Monday that the province had expanded its PCR testing eligibility to people who had arrived from any of the seven southern African nations that Canada recently added new restrictions on as the Omicron variant spreads. But Moore also said officials were suggesting to the federal government to expand testing to travellers from more countries as cases of the variant of concern had been reported in places like Australia and the Netherlands. On Tuesday, the federal government announced new travel rules in an effort to combat the variant, a move Premier Doug Ford applauded on Wednesday. The premier, however, said more discussions would be held about possibly expanding new testing rules to U.S. travellers who are currently exempt.
