The depiction of Iron-Man is probably the most astonishing example of the impact that the comic books make. The character of Iron-Man was created by legendary Marvel writer/editor Stan Lee, developed by writer Larry Lieber and designed by Don Heck and Jack Kirby. Iron-Man first appeared in Tales of Suspense #39 in March 1963 and later on got his own solo series in Iron-Man #1 in May 1968. It was stated by Stan Lee that he created Iron-Man in a whimsical mood as a challenge to create a character with traits that the masses hate, and then turn him into a beloved superhero.
He is a filthy rich American business tycoon, playboy and an arrogant, but, extremely intelligent man. Iron-Man has been generally shown as a founding member of The Avengers and is one of the most depicted Marvel superheroes relying on technology to grant him super-human attributes.

Therefore, when Marvel took the calculated risk of making superhero movies in a shared universe setting (it seemed to be a crazy thing to most people back then), it was not much of a surprise to see them portray Iron-Man as the character that made the opening move. Robert Downey Jr. did incredibly well as the character, and in fact, he has been so good at it, that he has now become the embodiment of the character. While Iron-Man was already popular among the comic book fans, it is the big screen arrival of the character that has made him a globally renowned superhero. Robert Downey Jr. has made numerous appearances as the character including his solo trilogy, The Avengers movies, Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming, etc.
