Peter Parker is an orphan who was raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben in New York City after the death of his parents Richard and Mary Parker in a tragic plane crash. In a turn of events, Peter was bitten by a radioactive spider which eventually resulted in his getting the superpowers. Lee and Ditko created the character as someone who faced everyday problems related to youth and finance, and there were a number of supporting characters such as J. Jonah Jameson, an editor with Daily Bugle who loved to defame Spider-Man, and Peter Parker’s classmates such as Flash Thompson, Harry Osborn and his love interests Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson.
At the turn of the millennium, as the whole world entered the 21st century, the new setting made us wonder whether the superhero next door had lost his sense of humor. The incredibly funny jokes based on the goofy Spider-Man had become a thing of the past. Although, he didn’t appear to be as rough as The Punisher, but, he had given up on most of his crazy antics, joined The Avengers and in fact, we even saw him die on a few occasions. Now, that’s more than enough to make anyone turn grumpy. It was due to Marvel’s desire of tempting the young readers into their fandom that made them revert to the famous pattern of the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man as a happy go lucky sort of a hero, who would be game to go on a free adventure with Tony Stark than to battle Green Goblin for their battle #1000.
Most of the Spider-Man jokes are quite stereotypes of the web-slinger, but, there are others which make us feel that they were created by comic book writers who had seen their wishes being granted in the form of an opportunity to write for him and were not interested in wasting their time on something frivolous like his yearning for Mary Jane. These funny punches and entertaining Spider-Man antics commemorate the 50 plus years of Spider-Man’s life as a superhero and also drive home the fact that he is at his best when he is not serious. No matter whether you are a fan of Spider-Man’s Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Ben Reilly or Doc Ock version, you will find a joke here which will be especially for you.
